President Graça praises spectacular events and excellent adverts for volleyball

 

The 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals were hosted by Nanjing, China

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 11, 2017 - "The last week has been a fantastic one for the FIVB as two incredible events came to an end in spectacular style," said FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° after the 2017 edition of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix and the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by A1 were completed on Sunday.

"Brazil were crowned FIVB Women’s World Grand Prix Group 1 Champions after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Italy. Meanwhile, in Vienna, the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships 2017 ended with success for German pairing Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst, who added a World Championships title to the Rio 2016 Olympic gold medals they secured last year. Evandro Goncalves and André Loyola of Brazil won the men’s event in their first World Championships as a duo.

"In Austria, #FIVBWorldChamps was trending on social media throughout the final days of competition and the atmosphere was electric as spectators engaged with the volleyball party, created by the centre court DJ and energetic dance moves!

"It is yet more evidence that the FIVB’s shift to fan engagement is helping to grow our global audience, and it was wonderful to see fans of all ages participating in the family-friendly fun.

"We had the honour of welcoming IOC President Thomas Bach to Vienna for the Championships, and he too was impressed by our innovative presentation style and on-screen augmented reality, which displayed live player stats throughout each match.

"In Nanjing, China, fans were treated to an exhilarating final, which provided another showcase for our sport. The Chinese Volleyball Federation has hosted a number of events this year and I thank them for the commitment they have shown to developing volleyball throughout the country.
