Italy captain Chirichella happy her team never gives up

Italy captain Cristina Chirichella has praised her team's fighting spirit

Kunshan, China, July 09, 2017 - Firing 39 points, including 31 spikes and 5 aces, Paola Ogechi Egonu sparked Italy to a 3-2 (25-21, 27-29, 24-26, 26-24, 15-10) win over a tough Russia, who were looking for their first win of the FIVB World Grand Prix 2017 campaign.

Davide Mazzanti, Italy coach: "Today's match is very important, especially after losing two matches. Things were not good for us at the beginning, but we are mentally strong and finally won the match. I’m quite happy to win."

Cristina Chirichella, Italy captain: "Every set in this match was difficult for us today, but no one gives up. We just try our best to win the match and we made it happen. Glad to win."

Vladimir Kuziutkin, Russia coach: "First of all, I should congratulate Italy for their perfect performance in the match. We are definitely not in our best form today. The first set was good but we failed to keep it going for all four sets. Everyone is trying to win and I think we will play better. We have many young players in the roster and I believe we will have a bright future."

Irina Zaryazhko, Russia captain: "It's a very good experience to play against such a strong team like Italy. We tried our best to win the match, but we made some mistakes. Matches like this can tell us what we should do in the future."
