Trinidad and Tobago fought hard for their first ever win

 Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, July 14, 2017 – FIVB World Grand Prix debutants Trinidad and Tobago picked up their first ever win in the competition as they overcame Australia 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-17) in Port of Spain on Friday.







Last week, Australia claimed their first victory in the competition when they defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-0. On Friday, Australia won the first set for the fourth time in five matches, but it wasn’t enough as the hosts roared back.

Krystle Esdelle (18 points) and Channon Thompson (17 points) dominated the scoring for Trinidad and Tobago, while the highest scorer in the match was Australia’s Rachel Rourke with 21 points, 10 more than the next highest scorer on the team, Eliza Hynes.

Trinidad and Tobago dominated in the blocking (13-7) and serving (11-6) categories but were guilty of 34 errors to Australia’s 21.
