Serbia begin World Grand Prix countdown

 

Serbia's players have the World Grand Prix and World Champ qualifiers to look forward to

Belgrade, Serbia, May 3, 2017 – Serbia’s players met up in Belgrade to begin their preparations for their FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix campaign and the Japan 2018, FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship European Qualifiers in Poland.

Head coach Zoran Terzic has called up a squad of 14 players, with a further 12 set join up following the conclusion of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship that will take place in Kobe, Japan from May 9-14. 


“We are eager to start working with each other,” receiver Brankica Mihajlovic said. “There will be some new players, we will miss a few older ones, but that is normal and we have to adjust. The most important thing for now is the tournament in Poland, and as for the FIVB World Grand Prix and the European Championship, we will think about that later.”

Serbia will face Iceland, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Slovakia and Poland in World Championship qualification from May 23-28. Should they progress from Pool 2 then they will take part in the final qualifying group from August 22-27.

In the World Grand Prix Terzic’s team begin in Ankara over July 7, 8, 9 where they face Turkey, Brazil and Belgium.

The following weekend the team will travel to Sendai in Japan to take on the hosts, Brazil again and Thailand. In the final weekend of pool matches they will take on Russia, Japan and Rio 2016 Olympic champions China.
