Boskovic helps Serbia beat Italy in four sets

 

Tijana Boskovic became Serbia's scoring leader against Italy

Nanjing, China, August 4, 2017 – Tijana Boskovic led Serbia with 16 points to help them top Pool K1 in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Friday.

World Grand Prix - Scores

Boskovic became the team’s scoring leader with 14 attacks and two blocks, as Brankica Mihajlovic did not see action in the match against Italy. Indre Sorokaite took over Paola Egonu’s position and topped all scorers with 22 markers.

World Grand Prix – Match Statistics by Teams

Serbia have won five of the last six meetings in all competitions against Italy. In the World Grand Prix, the Balkan team have won three of their four encounters.

Serbia fielded in solid starters that helped in securing the first two sets, while Italy struggled to get their offence going without their main hitter Egonu. Italy played with better pace and commanded the third set win 25-16 as Sorokaite and Bosetti stepped up on offence, forcing Serbia to commit more turnovers. Italy carried their momentum in the fourth set, but Serbia showed better focus down the final stretch to complete the four-set win.
