Szakmary-Dekany tandem lead Hungary to Group 3 final

Canberra, Australia, July 22, 2017 – Greta Szakmary and Bernadette Dekany gave superb performances in Hungary’s 3-2 (24-26, 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 15-11) win over France in the Group 3 semifinals of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix at AIS Arena on Saturday.

World Grand Prix - Scores

Greta Szakmary top scored for Hungary with 29 points, which were built on 28 solid spikes and an ace. Her team-mate Bernadett Dekany added 24 points from 18 spikes, three blocks and three aces. Juliette Fidon led France in double-figures and finished with 28 points.

World Grand Prix – Match Statistics by Teams

Hungary and France were undefeated coming into the semifinal, but Hungary succeeded in continuing their winning run and become the first ever team to win their first seven World Grand Prix matches.

Fidon outscored Szakmary to help France post a great comeback 26-24 win against Hungary in the opening set. Fidon already amassed 17 points but Szakmary’s offensive rhythm started to pick up to guide Hungary to level the match 1-1 at 25-18. France and Hungary took one set apiece in the next two sets, but Hungary showed better performance in the tie-breaker to cruise to the Group 3 final on Sunday.
