Leyva helps Peru gain their first victory in Poland

 

Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, Poland, July 16, 2017 – On the last day of competition in Poland, Peru claimed their first victory after four sets against Argentina 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-19).



21-year-old Jessica Leyva was the best scorer of the match with 21 points to her name. On Argentina’s side the best performance belonged to Emilce Sosa with 17 points, including 5 in block.



Jessenia Uceda threatened Argentina with her powerful spike, and scored 10 points as the first set went Peru’s way. The Albicelestes recovered and took a four-point lead at the beginning of second part, widening the final score to 25-18, thanks to Camila Hiruela’s great serves.



The following set was more exciting as Argentina started to chase coach Luizomar de Moura’s team, but Peru closed out the set with 25-23. The last set showed the true power of Peru – they improved reception, which in turn brought good performance in spike. Captain Mirtha Uribe ended the match from the middle at 25-19.
