Mlejnkova, Struskova lead Czechs to win over Peru to finish weekend unbeaten

Chiclayo, Peru, July 9, 2017 – Michaela Mlejnkova and Veronika Struskova each scored 15 as the Czech Republic finished an unbeaten weekend in the FIVB World Grand Prix with a 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23) victory over Peru.

The Czech duo helped their team overcome Peruvian star Angela Leyva, who led all scorers with 24 points, and helped quiet a boisterous crowd at the Coliseo Cerrado de Chiclayo to finish Pool C2 undefeated.

The first set saw the Czechs stretch an early lead before Peru caught up to tie at 23, but the visitors won three of the last four points to win the set. The Chiclayo crowd became louder in the second set, as Peru was able to level the match. But the Czechs held off a strong Peruvian comeback to win the third, then came from behind late in the fourth set to win the match.

The Czechs travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for next week’s World Grand Prix play in the Pool F2, while Peru will head to Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Poland and be a part of Pool E2.
