My players showed Peruvian passion – Luizomar

Peru started their FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix campaign with a four-set win over Puerto Rico

Chiclayo, Peru, July 7, 2017 – Peru coach Luizomar De Moura said that his players showed passion in their four-set win over Puerto Rico in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.

“Congratulations to Puerto Rico. They are a great team with important players like (Karina) Ocasio, (Daly) Santana and (Stephanie) Enright. We knew of their strength and that is why we had to play tactically in this match. We had a difficult start, but Peru is a country with great strength and my players demonstrated that Peruvian passion for volleyball.”

Peru captain Mirtha Uribe:
“We are trying to improve our game tactically and physically. I think that is what led us to have an improvement in such a short time. We are very happy for this victory because we have beaten a very strong team. The result today tells us that we are on the right direction.”

Puerto Rico coach Javier Gaspar: “I congratulate Luizomar for the great work he is doing with his team. They played great defence on the field. I told my team at the start of the tournament that the team that has the best service and reception will win. In the first set, we knew we did, but the in the following sets Peru adjusted and surpassed us. We have to continue working so that our reception will improve and we can stabilise our rhythm of play.”

Puerto Rico captain Natalia Valentin:
“Peru made a great performance on the court today than us. We made many mistakes and failed to get our rhythm on the attack, but I trust my team and we will recover for tomorrow.”
