Poland challenge Korea in quest for Group 2 gold

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 29, 2017 - Korea and Poland clash Sunday in Ostrava for gold in Group 2 of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix. It's the second time the two sides come head-to-head this season, after teh Asians dominated in three sets at home in Suwon for pool play. Korea have won three of the last foour meetings with Poland in the World Grand Prix. Poland's last win over Korea in an official competition was a three-set affair at the 2012 World Grand Prix.

Head-to-Head
• Korea have won three of the last four World Grand Prix meetings between these teams, including each of the last two.

• They last met on 23 July in the pool phase. In Suwon, Korea won in straight sets.
• Poland last defeated Korea at world level in the 2012 World Grand Prix. Poland won 3-0 in Foshan, China.

Korea
• Korea have won nine of their 10 matches at the 2017 World Grand Prix. They only lost in five sets against Bulgaria in the opening weekend.
• Korea have won six of their last eight World Grand Prix matches in straight sets. In this run, Korea only dropped a set against Poland (3-1 win) on 16 July and two against Germany on Saturday.
• Korea's seven match winning streak in the World Grand Prix is a team record in the competition.

Poland
• Poland have amassed eight victories and two defeats in the World Grand Prix this season.
• Poland suffered one of only two defeats in the World Grand Prix against Korea, their final pool phase match on 23 July.
• In the preliminary round, Poland delivered the best spiker (Malwina Smarzek), the best blocker (Agnieszka Kaklewska), the best digger (Agata Witkowska) and the best receiver (also Agata Witkowska) of Group 2.
