Poland look to repeat last week's 3-0 over Argentina

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 15, 2017 - Poland host Argentina Saturday in Ostrowiec in a rematch of the European side's straight-set win last week in Neuquen. It's the seventh time the two sides come head-to-head in the history of the FIVB World Grand Prix and Poland have won all six previous encounters. Poland produced stunning comebacks in sets 3 and 4 against Peru Friday to remain undefeated in Group 2.

Head-to-Head
• Poland have won all six World Grand Prix matches against Argentina, including 3-0 last week in Argentina.
• Poland have not played more matches against any other nation without losing in the World Grand Prix.
• These nations also met in the 2003 World Cup and at the 1960 World Championship, with Poland winning both encounters 3-0.
• Argentina have lost 22 of their 24 World Grand Prix encounters against CEV teams, including their last eight.

Poland
• Despite losing a set for the first time in the 2017 World Grand Prix against Peru on Friday, Poland have a 4-0 record in this year’s campaign.
• Poland could win five straight World Grand Prix matches for the first time since the last match of 2013 and the first four of 2014.
• For the first time ever, Poland could win the first five matches in a World Grand Prix campaign.
• Malwina Smarzek was Poland’s only player with at least one point with spikes (16), blocks (1) and serves (1) against Peru on Friday.

Argentina
• Argentina have lost their first four World Grand Prix matches in 2017. This is their least successful start since 2012, when they lost all nine matches in the campaign.
• Argentina have lost their last two encounters in straight sets. The last time they took three straight 3-0 defeats was in the last four matches of 2012 and the first of 2013 (5 total).
• In their straight-set defeat on Friday against Korea, Argentina lost the third set 8-25. This equalled their lowest points total in a set in the World Grand Prix, recorded on 20 August 2011 against Brazil.
• Nine players contributed in Argentina’s 55-point effort on Friday, of which Tanya Acosta scored the most: 10.
