Smarzek: 'Today we played like a team'

Malwina Smarzek celebrates after Poland victory over Canada

Neuquen, Argentina, July, 8, 2017 - Poland recorded two victories in a row to kick off the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix. Malwina Smarzek, the top scorer of the game, expressed her delight with the team's performance.

Malwina Smarzek (Poland, player): 'Today we played like a team. Every single player stayed focus on our game. We had good serve and I think this is the key to play well. I saw Canada yesterday and they did very well, but we stayed focus, we were good in block and it was enough. We will prepare very well for tomorrow's game against Argentina. They lost, but it doesn't matter for tomorrow's game.'

Jacek Nawrocki (Poland, coach)
: 'We have prepared very well for this game. We were very precise and played perfectly the tactical game we had planned. Today's game was very important, they played well yesterday, but today we were better and we have to keep doing things this way. We remember how Argentina played in Montreux, they did very well, but we know we can play at a high level, too. Tomorrow we will have a difficult match, but we think that we can win it'.

Marcello Abbondanza (Canada, coach):
'Poland is a good team, but we started the match with a bad mental approach. We didn't change that and against one team if you start in this way and you give them a lot of chances like today, it is complicated. I needed to try some players and some of them today gave good signs and that's very important and positive for us'.
