Valentin believes in team's passion to win

Puerto Rico showed passion in the end game, as they defeated Canada in five sets

San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 14, 2017 – Puerto Rico won over Canada in a very intense five-set match, but for captain Natalia Valentin, the team showed their strengths and came back from a struggle through the help of their home fans and their passion to win.

“The victory was more than ever gut and passion at the end game. We were not able to capitalise on our basics in the third and fourth sets, but we came out victorious. This was a necessary victory to boost the team’s confidence. The only thing we can do is get better from now on. As long as we serve well and have good passing, we will win our next matches.

Canada captain Lucille Charuk: “It’s very disappointing to get that close and lose with a big crowd like that. We didn’t start out well in the first two sets. We didn’t have any rhythm, energy was low and we had a lot of errors. We picked it up in the next two sets and then the last set had ups and downs on our blocks.”
