We had a solid passing and service game - Santana

Daly Santana had a prolific night in scoring, as she was the second best scorer for Puerto Rico with 12 points

San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 15, 2017 – After their straigh-set win over the Czech Republic, Puerto Rico’s Daly Santana said that the team had solid passing and service that created problems for the European side in their second encounter in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.

“I think it was a very good game in all aspects in the game. We had a solid game in passing and service that created a lot of problems for the rival team to play. I’m very proud of our work.

"It was our goal to correct our mistakes not only from yesterday but also from the past weekend. We are very pleased with this victory but this is a work in progress. I think we have to go out on the court tomorrow that way we played today, with a clear goal and to play hard. We have to put our hearts in the game and play strong.”

Puerto Rico coach Javier Gaspar: “I think the changes that we made worked out well. Alba Hernandez was immense at the net. Raymariely Santos did a good job. I think both Daly Santana and Stephanie Enright were more comfortable, particularly with their offence. It’s another step in our process of getting better and we feel more comfortable with the way we want to play volleyball now. We know it takes time, but we are patient and we trust the process.”

Czech Republic captain Karolina Bednarova: “Today we lost as a team. There was really not a single aspect of our game that worked out. Puerto Rico put us under a lot of pressure. They have improved so much from last week and the spectators were amazing as well, so they deserved to win today. They played very well. They won in every aspect – passing and blocking. Hernandez was amazing and there was no way to get through her.”
