Algeria still seek first 2017 win against Venezuela

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 13, 2017 - Venezuela and Algeria meet for the second time in FIVB World Grand Prix history Friday in Caracas, after the South Americans, who are making their debut season in the competition this year beat the African side 3-0 last week in Yaounde. Venezuela rebounded after their opening match defeat to France, but Algeria remain winless so far.

Head-to-Head
• Venezuela and Algeria are meeting for the second time in the World Grand Prix after their encounter last week on 9 July.
• Venezuela beat Algeria in straight sets with Shirley Florian (11) being the only player in the match with more than 10 points.
• Algeria have lost all three previous World Grand Prix meetings with teams representing the South American volleyball federation.

Venezuela
• After a defeat against France, Venezuela won their other two matches in the opening weekend of the 2017 World Grand Prix.
• Venezuela could join Brazil and Colombia as the only South American teams to win three of their first four World Grand Prix matches.
• Venezuela have won at least two sets in each of their three matches as their defeat against France came in a five-setter.

Algeria
• Algeria are winless in their last 11 World Grand Prix matches, since a 3-2 win against Australia in 2015.
• After that win, Algeria lost back-to-back matches in five sets before losing nine successive matches in straight sets.
• Yasmine Abderrahim has scored at least five points in all three matches so far at the 2017 World Grand Prix.
