Cameroon and Australia eye second 2017 win

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 15, 2017 - Cameroon and Australia meet for the very first time in an official competition Saturday in Port of Spain with both teams standing 1-3 so far in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix.

Head-to-Head
• This is the first meeting between these nations in a major competition (Olympic Games, World Championships, World Grand Prix, World Cup and Grand Champions Cup).
• Cameroon have played three matches in major competition against AVC countries, losing against Kazakhstan at the 2006 World Championships and against Japan and Korea at the 2016 Olympic Games, all in straight sets.
• Australia have lost all their five World Grand Prix matches against African teams.

Cameroon
• Cameroon won their World Grand Prix debut in straight sets against Algeria, but have lost all three matches since (winning only one set in those three defeats).
• Cameroon are the third African country to participate in the World Grand Prix, after Algeria and Kenya.
• Algeria recorded their second World Grand Prix victory in their 19th match in the competition (against Australia), while Kenya did it in their third fixture (versus Algeria).
• Christelle Nana Tchoudjang and Berthrade Simone Flor Bikatal both lead Cameroon in scoring on 42 points.
• Stephanie Fotso Mogoung leads Group 3 with an average of 1.2 blocks per set.

Australia
• Australia have won only one of their 24 World Grand Prix matches, the straight sets victory against Trinidad and Tobago in their third match of the 2017 edition.
• Australia have won at least one set in each of their last five World Grand Prix matches, after achieving this only six times in their first 19 fixtures in the competition.
• Australia won the opening set in only one of their first 19 World Grand Prix matches, but have taken a 1-0 lead in four of their last five fixtures in the competition.
• Rachel Rourke leads Group 3 in scoring 82 points, and averaging 1.3 serve aces per set.
• Alice De Innocentiis is Australia's best digger (1.6 average and 75 total attempts) and receiver (54 excellent).
