Canada launch ambitious Grand Prix project in Richmond

Canada's women's National Team gets new iconic home in Richmond as Volleyball Canada launches ambitious project ahead of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix.

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 19, 2016 - Volleyball Canada is launching an ambitious project ahead of the country's women's National Team participation in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix - with their home pool to be hosted at the iconic Richmond Olympic Oval.

Canada are taking part in Group 2 of the Grand Prix, hosting Germany, Peru and the Czech Republic in a Week 3 pool 21-23 July (following two weekends away in Argentina and Puerto Rico).

The Olympic Oval in Richmond, Greater Vancouver, was the venue for speed skating at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and a complete volleyball stadium will be constructed within the complex for the needs of the Grand Prix. As of 2017 it will also serve as the new training centre for Canada's women's National Team.

The venue includes international hotels for the participating teams within walking distance of the courts.

In 2017 Canada will be competing in the FIVB World Grand Prix for the fourth time since first joining the competition in 2014 and ranking 19th, 18th and 19th in their previous appearances.
