Czech Republic look for fourth 2017 win against Bulgaria

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 13, 2017 - The Czech Republic face Bulgaria Friday in San Juan as they look at scoring their fourth win in as many games so far in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix. The Czech Republic are one of the only two undefeated entering Week 2 of the competition (the other being Poland), but Bulgaria have a 3-1 edge in their head-to-head record.

Head-to-Head
• Czech Republic and Bulgaria have met four times in the World Grand Prix. Bulgaria have won three of those four matches.
• Czech Republic's only World Grand Prix victory over Bulgaria came in 2015, when the Czechs triumphed in five sets.
• Their most recent encounter took place in the World Grand Prix last season. Bulgaria won 3-1.

Czech Republic
• Czech Republic started their 2017 World Grand Prix season with successive victories against Colombia, Puerto Rico and Peru.
• For the first time since 2014, Czech Republic have won their opening three matches in a World Grand Prix season. In that year, they won their first seven.
• Their current winning run of three is their longest in the competition since seven in a row in 2014.

Bulgaria
• Bulgaria won their first two World Grand Prix matches this season, against Kazakhstan and Korea, before losing against Germany on Sunday.
• Both the victory against Korea and the defeat against Germany were decided in five sets.
• Bulgaria will play their first World Grand Prix match outside of Bulgaria in over a year. They played their last five in front of a home crowd.
