Dimitrova shines as Bulgaria prevail in thriller against Argentina

 

Dimitrova led her team to a tiebreak win on Sunday

Varazdin, Croatia, July 23, 2017 - Gergana Dimitrova scored 24 points in her team's 3-2 win (25-22, 17-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-12) over Argentina on Sunday.



Miroslava Paskova added 15 points for Bulgaria with Emilce Sosa scoring 20 for the losing side.



The first set was a tightly-contested affair with both teams keen on opening the match well. In the end Bulgaria prevailed with a slight, 25-22, margin. The next three sets were a different story, with one of the teams dominating the proceedings. First Argentina comfortably snatched set two and three, 25-17 and 25-18, respectively. The fourth set saw a reversal of fortunes with Croatia forcing a tiebreak thanks to a 25-19 victory.



Argentina opened the deciding score by winning the first two points. But powerful Bulgarian block quickly gave the European side a lead at 3-2. The score was tied until 10-all at which point Bulgaria won two consecutive points. This advantage was all they needed, as they continued their strong performance to close out the tiebreak, 15-12.
