Germany and Peru wrap up pool play in 2017 Grand Prix

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 23, 2017 - Germany and Peru meet Sunday in Richmond to wrap up pool play across the board for the 2017 season in the FIVB World Grand Prix. The two sides have met twice before in the history of the competition, with Germany having won both encounters in 2011. Germany, on 7-1 record thus far this season, have already qualified to the Final Four of Group 2, next week in Ostrava. Peru, on 3-5, are out of contention.

Head-to-Head
• Germany and Peru have met twice at the World Grand Prix with Germany winning both matches in 2011.
• Since the reunification of Germany, these teams met twice at the Olympic Games. In both 1996 and 2000 Germany won in straight sets.

Germany
• Germany beat Czech Republic in straight sets on Saturday to improve to seven wins and one defeat in the 2017 World Grand Prix.
• Germany have now won seven matches in a row, their longest winning streak in the competition.
• This winning run comes immediately after a 10-match losing streak.
• Jana Franziska Poll (12 points) and Maren Fromm (10) reached double figures against Czech Republic.

Peru
• Peru lost 3-1 to Canada on Saturday to see their 2017 World Grand Prix record fall to three wins and five defeats.
• Peru have now lost back-to-back matches in the World Grand Prix and could lose three in a row for the second time this season.
• Four Peruvian players reached double figures against Canada on Saturday, with Maguilaura Frias being the team's top scorer (12 points). Peru’s tournament top scorer Angela Leyva added 10 points to her tally.
