Leyva guides Peru in four-set win over Puerto Rico

 

Angela Leyva had a match-high 23 points for Peru in their 3-1 win over Puerto Rico in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix

Chiclayo, Peru, July 7, 2017 – Angela Leyva rose to the occasion when they hosted Puerto Rico at Coliseo Cerrado de Chiclayo on Friday, to post a 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21) win in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 2 competition.

Leyva was held by the Puerto Rican defenders to score only three points in the first set, but got an igniting push in the second set to finish with 23 points. Stephanie Enright and Karina Ocasio scored 14 points apiece for Puerto Rico.

Peru have participated in the World Grand Prix for the fourth consecutive year, following their two other participations in 1994 and 2011. Last year, Peru lost only one of their eight matches – a 3-1 defeat against Croaita.
