Poland look at extending perfect record over Canada

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 8, 2017 - Poland and Canada come head-to-head for the 5th time in FIVB World Grand Prix history, with Poland enjoying a perfect record of 4-0 in the series. Both sides will be looking at remaining unbeated this season, after wins on the opening day Friday over Croatia and Argentina respectively.

Head-to-Head
• Poland and Canada will meet for the fifth time at the World Grand Prix. The Polish team won each of their previous encounters with Canada by a 3-1 scoreline. On each occasion, they won the first set and lost the second.
• Poland have only played more World Grand Prix matches against Argentina without losing once (5).
• The only other encounters between Poland and Canada at world level came at the 1974 World Championship, with Poland winning both matches in straight sets.
• Canada have lost 12 of their 13 World Grand Prix matches against European sides, only winning 3-2 against Bulgaria in 2015.

Poland
• Poland beat Croatia 3-0 in their opening match.
• Last year, Poland won their first two matches of a World Grand Prix campaign.
• Poland could record back-back straight-set wins for the first time since 3-0 victories against Korea and Chinese Taipei in 2102.
• Malwina Smarzek scored 19 points against Croatia.

Canada
• Canada started the World Grand prix with a 3-0 win against Argentina.
• This was their second win in straight sets at the World Grand Prix after a 3-0 win versus Peru in 2014.
• Last year the Canadians lost all their matches.
• They could now win two matches in a row for the first time.
• Alexa Lea Gray scored 18 points against Argentina.
