Team profile

Algeria

Algeria first joined the FIVB World Grand Prix in 2013 and will be taking part for the 5th time this year. In fact their debut appearance produced Algeria’s best ranking to date of 20th, despite them not winning a single set. They fared better in subsequent editions, even scoring a couple of wins in 2015, but the expansion of the competition meant they ranked lower.
Algeria did not qualify for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship but came equal 21st in their only appearance in the competition, in 2010 in Japan. Two years earlier they had eliminated Kenya in the deciding match for a berth at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and four years later the two teams squared off with a place at London 2012 on the line. Again the Algerians prevailed, and they finished 11th in both Olympic tournaments. They were unable to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics however, after they finished fourth at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Puerto Rico.
