Overview

Team profile

Mexico will be appearing in the FIVB World Grand Prix for the fourth time this year, after first joining the competition in 2014. They finished all their previous appearances on identical 2-4 records, for sixth place in 2014, seventh in 2015 and sixth again last year.
The team were one of the dominant forces in North and Central American volleyball from the 1950s to the 1970s. They took the gold medal on their debut at the Pan American Games in 1955 and followed that by claiming bronze in 1963, 1971 and 1975. It was a similar story at the NORCECA Championships with triumphs in 1969 and 1971 followed by bronze medal performances in 1975, 1979 and 1981. They also took seventh place competing against the world’s elite teams at the Mexico City 1968 Olympic Games. They ended a 20-year absence from the FIVB Volleyball World Championship in 2002 and returned again in 2006, but their best result remains from 1974 when they finished in 10th place.
