Hungary built momentum on opponents’ errors, says Salomoni

Hungary prevailed over Trinidad and Tobago in the battle of the debutantes in Group 3 of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix

Aguascalientes, Mexico, July 7, 2017 – Italian coach of Hungary coach Alberto Salamoni said that his team built its momentum from the errors of their rivals Trinidad and Tobago in their debut match in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.

“I am trying to make Hungary play quicker, not only think about block and defence. We are very happy for this start, but this is only one match. Trinidad and Tobago are a very physical team and our game plan was to stop their strong players. The serves in the beginning were not efficient, but set by set it got better. The strategy was not to move the ball so close to the net so their middle blockers could not perform. They are very dangerous. We build our momentum on their errors.”

Hungary captain Rita Liliom: “We really wanted to make a good debut. We are excited to be in the World Grand Prix and show that we can do well not only in the Euro League. In set two we had a bad series of serving. In set three we executed well our drop defence and our serves improved, giving us more confidence to perform. I hope that we can continue to win.”

Trinidad and Tobago coach Francisco Cruz: “We committed numerous unforced errors and at this level you are practically handing out the win to the opponent. Several things conspired against my team – my girls were frozen and they were really nervous and anxious. My setter was not able to execute our game plan.”

Trinidad and Tobago captain Renel Forde: “We are not happy with the performance we had today. We have a higher level than this. We have stronger attacks. That is our strongest point and we did not do that today.”
