Hungary challenged by Venezuela in bid to stay undefeated


Lausanne, Switzerland, July 16, 2017 - Venezuela host Hungary Sunday in Caracas with the Europea side looking to finish pool play in Group 3 undefeated in their debut season. Venezuela are on a four-match winning streak after dropping their opener in five sets to the only other undefeated side of the group, France. Venezuela and Hungary meet for the very first time in any official competition.

• Venezuela and Hungary will meet for the first time at a world level tournament.
• Hungary have won four of their previous six matches against South American opposition at world level, including their last two.
• Venezuela have failed to win their previous two matches against European teams at world level.

• After losing their opener in five sets to France, Venezuela won the following four World Grand Prix encounters.
• All four wins came in straight sets, including two this weekend against Algeria and Mexico.
•Venezuela have yet to lose a first set in a World Grand Prix match.
• Aleoscar Blanco Iriarte (17) and Maria Jose Perez Gonzalez (16) combined for 33 of Venezuela's 75 points against Mexico on Saturday.

• Hungary have won all of the five matches they played in the World Grand Prix. Four of those wins came in straight sets, one by a 3-1 scoreline.
• Hungary and France became the first ever countries to win their first five ever matches at the World Grand Prix.
• On Saturday, Hungary conceded only 32 points in their 3-0 victory over Algeria, fewest for any team against any opponent in the 2017 World Grand Prix.
• Greta Szakmary and Bernadett Dekany shared the top scoring honours for Hungary against Algeria with 12 points each, while Eszter Nagy (11) also reached double figures.
