Hungary showed power, discipline and strategy - Salamoni

Hungary celebrate their 3-0 win over hosts Mexico in Group 3 of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix

Aguascalientes, Mexico, July 9, 2017 – Hungary coach Alberto Salamoni said his team deserved to win and finish undefeated in Group 3 of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix because they showed their best volleyball.

“I am proud of my girls. I think we deserved to win this weekend because we showed our best volleyball through power, discipline and strategy. We controlled most of Mexico’s powerful attackers and we made them play like we wanted. It was a great match for Hungary. I studied them well and we did not want them get any opportunities. We felt at east here in Mexico.”

Hungary captain Rita Liliom: “This is our first World Grand Prix and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We had really good preparation before our match against Mexico. We executed our game plan well and we were concentrated in the entire match. I think this was the main reason for our success tonight. We want to continue winning, but we will do this step by step.”

Mexico coach Ricardo Naranjo: “We had too many unforced errors. As a team, we reached our goal for the first round. Next weekend, we have to work on the players’ concentration to at least pocket two more wins if we want to be in the Final Four. We wanted to please our crowd tonight. We did the best we could against Hungary’s well-plotted strategy.”

Mexico captain Andrea Rangel:
“The team acknowledges that we need to focus more. Playing at home gives us confidence for the next round. It proved that we are a strong team.”
