Lizbeth Sainz carries Mexico to victory over Australia

 

Mexico celebrate defeating Australia in their opening match

 Aguascalientes, Mexico, July 7, 2017 – Rachel Rourke’s 28 points for Australia were in vain on Friday as Mexico rallied from a first-set loss to overcome their opponents 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23) in a tight Pool A3 match in Mexico.



Libeth Sainz packed in two aces, four blocks and 13 kills for Mexico and she was supported by Andrea Rangel and Dulce Carranza who had 14 points apiece. Mexico had 19 blocking points to Australia’s nine, while Australia had the edge in serving with six aces to Mexico’s three. Rourke hit four of Australia’s service aces.The two teams met in 2015 and 2016 and Mexico also won both those matches 3-1. Australia have yet to win a match in the World Grand Prix after 21 attempts.
