The Hungarian teamwork worked well against the Australians in the Group 3 gold medal match of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix
Canberra, Australia, July 23, 2017 – Hungary coach Alberto Salamoni was grateful for all his players for showing great teamwork in their straight-set win over Australia in the Group 3 gold medal match of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.
Hungary coach Alberto Salamoni:
“We knew Australia were going to play special from the beginning, especially that they are playing in front of their home crowd. I think we deserved to win this tournament because we were undefeated. I am proud of the team. For a foreign coach like me, this is such a fantastic achievement for a small country like Hungary.
“Szakmary is one of my top players but I don’t want to forget all of the other players who kept this team working together. Their teamwork gave all the possibilities for our top players to be at their best in this match.”Hungary player Greta Szakmary:
“We came here for the gold and that is exactly what we did today. This makes me really happy right now.

“This wasn’t our best game. I think we could have played a lot better than we played today. Hungary were very strong. They are a very frustrating team to attack against because play excellent defence and they attack very well.”Australia captain Beth Carey:
“I think we started a bit in awe of the fact that we are in the gold medal match. We haven’t had this opportunity for such a long time and in front of our home crowd. We picked up and we started to get into the game, but we just let up on the important points and get Hungary get into the game and get the momentum.”
