Martinez guides Dominican Republic in tiebreak win over Belgium

Kaliningrad, Russia, Jul 16, 2017 – The Dominican Republic defeated Belgium in a five-set (3-2, 25-13,21-25,25-21,18-25, 15-11) thriller on Sunday.



The winners' top scorers, Bethania De La Cruz and Elizabeth Martinez, put 22 points on the board each, with Kaja Grobelna scoring 21 for Belgium.

The first set was an easy win for the Dominicans. The convincing performance of Elizabeth Martinez who scored 6 points didn’t give Belgium a chance. In the second the Belgians reached the second technical time-out with a four-point advantage and continued to win the set, 25-21.



In the third set Elizabeth Martinez emerged as the leader taking her team to a 25-21 victory. In the fourth Belgium prevailed 25-18 with their top scorer Kaja Grobelna taking them into a tiebreak.

The final set saw the Dominans dominate as they took it, 15-11.
