Smarzek scored 18 points for Poland

Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, Poland, Jun 14, 2017 – Poland made a comeback from one set behind in a thrilling match against Peru on Friday.



Malwina Smarzek scored 18 points for the winners with Carla Rueda Cotito putting 23 on the board for the visitors.


Peru won the first set after taking a lead in the late stages of the set and finishing it at 25-22. Poland came back fighting in the second, taking a 4-1 lead before extending it to 11-5. They maintained the advantage for the rest of the set which finished at 25-17.


The third set saw Poland squander two set points in a row at 24-22. However, a good Efimienko spike together with a successful block handed them the set, 27-25. The visitors were off to a great start in the following set by winning the first four points. They were in the lead for most of the set earning two set points of their own at 24-22. Still, the hosts proved stronger, as they won five out of the following six rallies, and took the final set, 27-25.
