My players didn’t give up whatever happened on the court, says coach Kuzyutkin

Russia had a full house of fans and fought hard to make them happy

Kaliningrad, Russia, July 14, 2017 - Russia beat Dominican Republic 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-14) extending their record against the Caribbean side to 13 undefeated meetings at world level.

Russia coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin: The team deserved this victory, the players didn’t give up whatever happened on court. Dominican Republic team is very stable and we knew it would be a difficult match. Russian team prepared for that and showed it on court. We had a chance to test new players though we still need strong attackers. The players didn’t give up, held the focus and have improved their performance.

Russia captain Irina Zaryazhko: It was important to win after three defeats. We played well and we are happy that we could bring some joy to our home fans.

Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: W started the game with intense and strength, but then Russians made substitutions and it cost us a lot of points. After the third set we had a lot of problems with reception, Russia have a very good block and it was difficult to fight with that.

Dominican Republic player Dharlenis Marte Frica: We lost our concentration and made a lot of mistakes. We didn’t push when we needed to push.
