The German team celebrating victory in the match for third place
Ostrava, Czech Republic, July 30, 2017 –
Louisa Lippmann was a true leader for
Germany in the match for third place in Group 2 of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2017. Despite the noisy support from the home fans in Ostrava, the Germans achieved a 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 25-23) victory over the
Czech Republic.
Lippmann was by far the best scorer of the match with 26 points, including three aces for the winning side.
Petra Kojdova was the Czech Republic’s most prolific player with 19.
This is the second World Grand Prix win for Germany against the Czechs this season. The last time Czechia (back then as Czechoslovakia) defeated Germany (back then as West Germany) at the world level was at the 1974 World Championship.

A very tight first set ended with consecutive successful attacks by
Jana Franziska Poll and
Jennifer Pettke, which shaped up the 25-23 German win, garnished with as many as 10 points by Louisa Lippmann. The Czech spikers gained momentum after the first technical time-out to pile up a solid lead that took them to a 25-17 win. Set 3 was quite competitive again, but with Lippmann back in scoring mode, Germany gradually managed to break away.
Irina Kemmsies came in as a sub to serve and aced for 25-20 Germany’s way. Inspired by the home crowd, the Czechs tried fighting back in the fourth, but the German spikers would not allow it. Between the two technical time-outs, the Germans took control of the scoreboard and held on to it until Poll put the ball on the floor to stop the clocks at 25-23.
