The Dominican Republic have been continuously playing in the FIVB World Grand Prix since 2004. Their best ranking remaining 8th place twice, in 2006 and 2010. In 2015 they finished winless at the bottom of Group 1 and were relegated, but last year they beat Poland 3-2 in the Group 2 final to immediately return to the top division.
Their greatest success on the global stage was taking bronze at the 2009 FIVB Grand Champions Cup in Japan. They also participated in the Olympic tournaments in Athens 2004 and London 2012, claiming fifth place at the latter. The Dominican Republic have competed in FIVB World Championships seven times and at the FIVB World Cup four times. At the 2014 World Championship they took tied with Russia in fifth place after reaching the third round. They were Pan American Games gold medallists in 2003 and won the bronze in 2015. They were also NORCECA champions in 2009.
