Tandara and Rosamaria deliver crucial win for Brazil

 

Brazil celebrate a crucial 3-2 win over the Netherlands in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals

Nanjing, China, August 3, 2017 – Tandara Caixeta and Rosamaria Montibeller hit the 20-point mark to provide Brazil with the crucial 3-2 (25-27, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11) win over the Netherlands in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Thursday.

World Grand Prix - Scores

Tandara and Rosamaria led Brazil with 25 and 22 points, respectively, while Celeste Plak headed the Netherlands offence with a match-high 28 points. Brazil benefitted from their 17 blocks and made fewer errors than their rivals in the tightly contested match.

World Grand Prix – Match Statistics by Teams

The Brazilian victory kept them in contention to earn a ticket to the semifinals and extended their dominance over the Netherlands in the World Grand Prix with 13 victories out of 14 encounters.

The Netherlands trailed Brazil but got a break at the end to seal a 27-25 opening set win from a Brazilian attack error and Plak’s drop shot. The succeeding sets became a see-saw battle as both squads took alternate set-wins that forced a tie-breaker. The Brazilians took advantage of Dutch errors to build momentum and complete the win.
