Hong Kong, July 23, 2017 - Japan claimed victory over Russia 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-10) to claim their spot in the FIVB World Grand Prix Final Six.
Japan coach Kumi Nakada: I would like to thank Hong Kong’s audience for their support and encouragement. Our team has encountered very strong opponents in three consecutive days with tough moments. These are valuable nutrients for the development of our team. I am happy with the result.
Japan captain Nana Iwasaka: It was not easy to play through the five sets. Our team gained confidence for the upcoming events. Russia team are very tall and powerful. We are happy to win. Russia coach Vladimir Kuziutkin: First of all, I would like to congratulate Japan for their victory and their ticket to the final six and I wish them successful in the final. It was a good match. We were able to win the earlier sets with good scores. However, we were not able to win due to inexperienced players.
Russia captain Irina Zaryazhko: It was an interesting but difficult match. I am sad that our team did not win.
